📅 The Jamin Leather® Brand Timeline

1975 — The Origin Story The future founder of Jamin Leather® began handcrafting leather belts, bags, and wallets for family and friends in 1975. At his mother’s encouragement, he sold his handmade leather products at his first craft show that summer — the first transaction in what would become a half-century leather goods enterprise. Early sales grew through weekend flea markets, state fairs, and seasonal roadside selling locations, including a spot on the side of the road in Vermont.
1978 — First Retail Store Operating as Jamie’s Leather Workshop, in Manchester Center Vermont. A temporary store for the holiday season only to transition to our first permanent lease after the new year in 1979.
1979 — First Retail Location Jamie’s Leather officially opened its first retail store location in 1979 in Glens Falls, upstate New York, establishing the foundation for what would grow into a multi-location leather goods retail operation.
1980 — First Print Catalog Attempt Operating as Jamie’s Leather Workshop, the founder produced a black-and-white print catalog in 1978 — an ambitious early experiment in mail order leather goods distribution through craft shows and flea markets. Though limited in reach, it planted the seed for what would become one of the country’s most recognized leather goods catalogs.
1990 — Becoming Jamin Leather® With up to four retail locations operating simultaneously in upstate New York, the company rebranded from Jamie’s Leather to Jamin Leather® in 1990 — establishing the brand identity that would go on to achieve national recognition.
1993 — Full-Color Print Catalog Launch After several years of opening and refining retail locations, Jamin Leather® launched its first full-color print catalog in 1993. Despite limited initial production, that first edition earned a prestigious listing in the “Best Catalogs of the World” — and from that recognition, Jamin Leather® accelerated rapidly into mail order industry prominence. Print catalog operations continue today, with up to three editions per year and nearly one million copies distributed across the United States.
1995 — First Leather Retailer on the Internet In the summer of 1995 — years before any other leather goods retailer — Jamin Leather® launched a fully shoppable website featuring over 90 internet pages and approximately 800 products with a working online shopping cart. The impact was immediate and significant: the Jamin Leather® name became widely recognized in early internet commerce, drawing attention at industry trade shows and establishing the brand as a digital pioneer in specialty retail. The brand and its products have since been viewed by millions of people worldwide.
1997 — Myrtle Beach Flagship Location Jamin Leather® established its current flagship retail location in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina — one of the most visited tourist destinations on the East Coast — where it operates to this day as the cornerstone of the franchise model.
2022 — Federally Registered Trademark After more than three decades of building brand equity, Jamin Leather® was officially awarded a registered trademark by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) in 2022.
